Yepper, one week to go. Then the council will discuss putting a sales tax increase on the ballot, with the funds going for road maintenance.
Do our roads need work? Yepper Do we need a 3/8th sales tax? I don't think so, and I think we can get by with a smaller one. As I said in my post last week I will explain how at the meeting.
This could be a very important meeting. Try and be there.
Rumor time: Now this is a rumor, not a fact, but word on the street is that the city manager might try and get the council to put the sales tax question on a mail ballot, instead of the general election ballot. Figuring lower turn out would make it easier to get the voters to approve it. Here's the kicker, putting it on the general election ballot won't cost the city a penny. Creating a mail ballot would run about $70K. And we need a tax increase for road maintenance? Something does not make sense here.
