I was sent the information that former mayor Michelle Distler had this critical comment concerning the four candidates that have the support of various elements of the Republican party. Apparently she didn't like a mailer that went out on their behalf.
She reportedly said that all other candidates had run their campaigns with honesty and integrity.
She is the last person to question anyone's honesty and integrity. Why? Simple. She is the only Shawnee mayor who was ever arrested and charged with a felony. The result of that was that she got diversion. That's where you perform some form of punishment (usually community service) and if it is completed successfully the charges are dropped. Lucky for her, because in Kansas a sitting mayor if convicted of a felony is, by statute, removed from office. The court ordered diversion stipulated that none of the community service could be related to her position as mayor, and that she could not use the community service to further her political ambitions. As an example, she couldn't say "golly gee I even picked up trash along K-7 to help clean up Shawnee", or whatever her punishment was. Here's the rest of the story. Not only was she charged with a felony, but she never apologized publicly to the city council, the people of Shawnee, or the person whose name she illegally used. The only apology was the standard cop out by her lawyer. But never anything from her own mouth.
It takes chutzpah for an individual like her to question anyone else's honesty and integrity, If ya read the affidavit for the arrest warrant you'd see how many different stories she gave the investigator.
PS......was Morgan Rainey referring to Dave Myres as a racist and classist honest and did it show integrity. I'd bet her grandfather is rolling over in his grave..
